Muslim leaders in Mombasa County have urged security personnel to beef up security ahead of Ramadhan.
The leaders called upon police to deal with criminal gangs that have been terrorizing residents in the region.
Speaking during a press briefing at Mbaruk mosque in Mombasa, the clerics from Supreme Council of Kenya (Supkem) and Kenya Assembly of Ulammah said that criminal gangs are likely to disrupt the celebrations. They said that most of the Muslim faithful will be conducting prayers at night, adding that there is need for security.
“Most prayers are conducted at night during Ramadhan and with the rise of attacks by the gangs, especially in Kisauni, we are worried. This is why we are calling upon the security officers to address this matter which is now getting out of hand urgently,” said Supkem Coast regional chairman Sheikh Muhdhar Khitamy.
The message of the clerics come after at least 15 members of the dread Wakwali Kwanza cornered and hacked a man in Mwandoni. The leaders said that there is need for police to put in place measures to improve security in different parts of the county.
