Kisumu Central MP Fred Odhiambo Ouda, while attending the homecoming party of his colleague William Kamket, said anyone with presidential ambitions should hit the ground without fears that Ruto has 'run away with the post-Kenyatta presidency'.

Ouda said the fact that Ruto is in office does not mean he is a front runner.

“Being near the kitchen door does not make you a cook,” said Mr Ouda.

Other MPs,  Lurambi's Titus Khamala and Emurua Dikirr's Johanna Ngeno, said Baringo senator Gideon Moi should formally declare his interest for the top seat.

“Ruto may be ahead of everyone else, but Kalonzo Musyoka was once the Deputy President; he is now watching on the sidelines,”Nge'no said.
