Early last week, a man was mauled by a lion along Mombasa road. The man, who encountered the stray lion, sustained injuries and was rushed to South B's Matar hospital in Nairobi.
According to a report by Kenya wildlife services, KWS, the lion strayed out of the Nairobi National park following noise disturbances from the Standard gauge railway construction site.
Well, this was bound to happen. A few weeks ago, three lions escaped from the same and were spotted along Langata road and some in near Kibera.
When the standard gauge railway was scheduled to pass through the park, many environmentalists protested the move but their pleas fell on deaf ears. Now we are just starting to feel the heat.
Lions like a quiet habitat and as long as the construction will continue, we shall hear more cases of lions escaping from the park. KWS is now paying for the consequences of wrong decisions.
I would just advise those living near the park and along Langata road and Mombasa road to be extra vigilant.
