Like the other Luo Nyanza counties; Kisumu, Migori and Siaya, a big chunk of Homa Bay is covered by the waters of Lake Victoria. 

Here are the best places that you should plan to visit in Homa Bay county:

1. Mfangano and Rusinga islands

They are both in Lake Victoria. They offer excellent sites for hiking, fishing, walking, safaris and bird watching. Rusinga Island is the home and burial site of the late former minister Thomas Joseph Odhiambo, commonly known as Tom Mboya. He was assassinated in 1969.

2. Simbi Nyaima

It is a volcanic crater lake in Kendu Bay. Simbi Nyaima is believed to have been formed in 1680 due to an earthquake that was accompanied by volcanic eruption.The waters of the Lake are claimed to have medicinal value. People have in the past claimed to have been cured after bathing in the lake.

3. Ruma National Park

It is located in Lambwe Valley, close to the shores of Lake Victoria. The park covers 120 square kilometers and is home to a large number of wildlife.More than 400 species of birds have been recorded to be residing in the park.
