President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has been warned of dire consequences for failing to appoint key leaders from the vote rich Rift Valley to its campaign team.
There’s no single politician from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties in the campaign team list.
The list was read out by Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto three weeks ago at the Bomas of Kenya during Jubilee Party’s Special National Delegate Congress.
Turkana Senator John Munyes, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso, and women representatives Joyce Emanikor (Turkana), Soipan Tuya (Narok) and Janet Nangabo (Trans Nzoia) are the only Rift Valley representatives Jubilee’s campaign team list.
Former Roads Minister Franklin Bett says ignoring leaders from the region could hurt Jubilee in 2017 general election.
"Why would you assume, the two regions, with its governors, senators and MPs, someone could be making serious blunders. Uhuru and his deputy are no longer interested in the region's support," Bett told the Standard.
He said ignoring key North and South Rift leaders was ill advised.
Reports indicate that many leaders from the vote-rich region are unhappy with the 61-member team.
