With only Murang’a and Nairobi counties remaining to receive the mobile clinics out of the 47 counties in the country, the First Lady said her efforts would not have been possible without the backing she received from Kenyans.

“All the clinics we deliver represent the very best of Kenya,” the First Lady said Wednesday in Kapsabet as she handed over the 45th Beyond Zero Mobile Clinic to Nandi County.

The First Lady pointed out that the clinics she has been delivering reflect the spirit of generosity that exists amongst Kenyans.

She also said the support to the Beyond Zero initiative also exhibits the growing sense of responsibility among citizens.

The Beyond Zero Initiative and the mobile clinic, said the First Lady, is about supplementing the efforts of the County and National Governments in improving maternal and child health.

“It is also about ensuring that expectant mothers have access to safe places to deliver their babies. We also try to ensure that essential vaccinations for new borns are given promptly and that treatment for sick children is readily available,” said the First Lady.

The First Lady commended the Nandi County Governor’s spouse, Florence Lagat, for the many great initiatives she has undertaken to support the welfare of children, girls and mothers.

The clinic delivered to Nandi County was sponsored by the Cooperative Bank of Kenya. The First Lady thanked the Bank for its continued support to the Beyond Zero initiative.

Since she began the Beyond Zero Initiative slightly over two years ago, the First Lady said, the success achieved has largely been through the support of all Kenyans.

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleophas Mailu commended the First Lady for championing maternal and new born healthcare, saying her efforts have greatly contributed in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

He said as the country transits to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), the First Lady’s support will be crucial to the health sector.

Governor Cleophas Lagat said the the mobile clinic would greatly boost the achievement of his county’s healthcare goals, adding that it would assist women and children access treatment at their door steps.

Emgwen MP Alex Kosgey and the Nandi Women Representative Zipporah Kering praised the First Lady for being a role model and an inspiration to many Kenyans by helping the less fortunate.

Earlier, the First Lady visited Kapsabet School for the Deaf where she was conducted on a tour of the school.

The school has a population of 300 students and offers primary and secondary education including vocational training.
