A 34-year-old man has been arrested by police in Kikuyu after he was found with bhang plants worth Sh500,000 in a hired farm at Thogoto.
Speaking to journalists after the raid, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu confirmed that police got a tip off from the Nyumba Kumi chairman where the man lived. He said that the man is suspected to have been planting the substance for a while without being noticed.
Maweu said that they ambushed the farm on Monday morning and found the man planting more of the substance and they arrested him.
“I want to call on members of the public to be very vigilant on such issues as they are the ones misleading our youths. This substance is targeted at our youths and we can only kill this if the public participates fully by reporting such issues,” said Maweu.
He said the suspect is in police custody as police have launched a manhunt for his wife who is said to be doing the business with the husband. Maweu also warned land owners on being very careful on whom they higher their lands to for plantation.
“This piece of land was hired by the suspect and his wife. Land owners who lease their lands for a certain period should be very vigilant as such cases can land them in big trouble,” said Maweu.
