A man left people in stitches after he was caught by police officers in Muguga selling bhang.
People who witnessed the act burst into laughter after the man denied the accusations claiming that the rolls of bhang he sells are bigger and not like those held by the officers.
The peddler, who is in his mid-20s admitted at the scene after heavy beatings that he has been in the business for the last three years.
“I started selling marijuana when I was in form three and this is how I earn my living,” he said.
Among the witnesses, there were several angry women who wanted to stone the poor man saying that such people are working against the law and they should face the consequences.
“Youths should be arrested for selling drugs to our young sons and daughters. It is saddening when such a young man is arrested for peddling drugs,” said Ann Nyawira, a witness.
According to Kiprop, a police officer, bang peddling in the area has really increased and they are hunting down all those involved with such illegal businesses.
“This case is just one of the many cases of drugs trafficking and selling but we are working around the clock to ensure we arrest those involved,” he said.
The man who was resisting the arrest pleaded with the two officers to release him but he was handcuffed and taken to Muguga Police Station.
“We will carry out more investigations so that we also arrest those linked with this criminal act,” Kiprop said.
According to a research done by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) last year, alcohol is the most abused substance in the country followed by tobacco and then bhang. Heroin and cocaine follows respectively.
