Security officers led by Lang’ata sub-County Deputy Commissioner Mr John Elungata on Wednesday raided a secret bhang farm at Undugu area in Kibra and destroyed the illegal narcotic.

Mr Elungata said he led the team to the farm after being tipped off by a patriotic resident who had discovered the almost one acre farm.

The officers uprooted the marijuana plant with the help of the National Youth Service (NYS) officers before burning it.

Elungata said the bhang they uprooted had a street value of approximately Sh5 million adding the owner is yet to be known.

“We got information from a resident who is actually inspired by the nyumba kumi initiative. He reported to us that there was a bhang plantation in the area and that the substance was mature enough to be harvested,” said Elungata.

He gave residents an assurance of continuous operation against drugs within Kibra and Lang’ata area in a bid to fight drug abuse and drug trafficking.

“We have been coming across such incidences almost yearly especially during rainy seasons, but we endeavour to eliminate this so that we protect our young people from abusing drugs,” he said.

The Highrise location Chief Mr Patrick Adira was also involved in the operation. The members of provincial administration urged the public to help in providing information on drugs and drug abuse in the area so that those who are behind the business can be brought to book.
