A formal petition seeking to impeach Nakuru County executive member for trade, tourism and wildlife management has been filed at the county Assembly. Wainaina Chege and advocate Charles Munjuga wants Edith Kimani impeached for presenting a degree from a university not recognised by the Commission for University Education during her recruitment by the Nakuru County Public Service Board last year. Munjuga argues that the chief officer falls short of recruitments of chapter six of the constitution.
In a letter dated June 11 to the Commission for University Education chief executive, the firm of Chege Wainaina and company advocates sought to know the accreditation status of the Australian International Hotel School.
The commission, in a letter dated September 15 2014, wrote to the law firm indicating that the said institution does not the Australian International Hotel School. The letter further indicates that the recognition of a foreign institution by the commission is by convention if the institution is accredited by a recognised accrediting body in the country of origin. During her recruitment, Kimani presented curriculum vitae indicating that she attained a Bachelor’s degree in hotel management from the said Institution. The law firm now wants the chief officer removed from the position on the basis that the commission does not recognize the Australian institution.
