Youths, Women, and People with Disabilities (PWD’s) in Uasin Gishu may soon find it easier to access loans being distributed by the county government.
This is after the County Assembly of Uasin Gishu passed a motion urging the department of Cooperatives and Enterprise Development to develop a policy that will enable youth, women and PWD’s groups access loans distributed by the county.
Simat/Kapseret Ward representative Edwin Korir on Thursday moved the motion noting that the groups face major challenges especially in raising funds for investment.
“These groups face discrimination during funds distribution yet they contribute a major role in raising funds for investment in the small and medium enterprise in the county,” noted Korir.
The motion received overwhelmingly support from the MCA’s present who called for its speedy implementation.
The youthful MCA later posted on his Facebook page saying, “…as chair cooperatives development committee, I will work hard to see that the youth, women and PWD groups are considered when giving out loans.”
The county government of Uasin Gishu has set aside over Sh314 million to be issued out as loans to various groups who are in cooperatives.
