Speaking from his office in Nakuru, Mwangi asked motorists not drive when it is raining for purposes of their safety and their passengers.

He said that with heavy rains being experienced in the county, motorists should als take caution of their safety.

“For their own safety and that of their passengers, motorists are hereby advised not drive when it’s raining heavily,” he said.

Mwangi said that several cases have been reported where vehicles are submerged or even swept by moving water.

He also said that heavy rains affect driver’s visibility, putting the lives of the passengers in danger.

Mwangi instead urged motorists to park their vehicles when raining and only to resume their journeys after the rain subsides.

He also urged motorists to be aware of the slippery roads and desist from speeding.

At the same time, Mwangi said on Friday that more traffic police officers will be stationed at various spots along the Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret highway to deal with motorists who over speed.

The traffic boss said that the department is reviewing footage from the speed cameras and will arrest and ground vehicles that will be found to have been over speeding.

“We are going to review the footage which has been recorded for the last one month with the aim of taking action against motorists who flout traffic laws,” said Mwangi.
