[Photo|Anyang' Nyong'o]Today, Wednesday January 3, 2018 marks a big day in the lives of Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o and his predecessor Jack Ranguma.It is the day when the High Court in Kisumu is slated to issue a ruling on whether to uphold or invalidate Nyong'o's August 8 election.Ranguma who lost his seat to Nyong'o who was elected through NASA coalition's ODM party, filed a petition at the Kisumu High Court seeking for the nullification of the gubernatorial election.He said race was not conducted in accordance with the law and was marred by electoral irregularities and malpractice.The two have since appeared in court to defend themselves as witnesses.Nyong'o appeared in court on November 30, 2017 accompanied by his Deputy Dr Ochieng' Owili, County Secretary Olang'o Onudi, Chief of Staff Patrick Ouya, among others.The governor's legal team is led by Senior Counsel James Orengo and Antony Oluoch.IEBC and the Returning Officer John Lorionokou are represented by advocate Edwin MukeleRanguma took to the dock as the first witness where he told Judge David Majanja that he won but his election was stolen.Ranguma is represented by lawyer Richard Onsongo.On December 29, Kisumu High Court Deputy Registrar said Justice Majanja would issue a ruling about the petition on January 3, 2018.
