Over 100 elected leaders including Governors, Deputy Governors, Senators and MCAs have refused to join Jubilee Party after their respective parties were dissolved.

The Registrar of Political Parties on Tuesday said the leaders resolved to remain either independent or joined other political parties as they serve their remaining term in office.

The leaders include three Governors, two Deputy Governors, two Senators, seven MPs and 94 MCAs.

"The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has received resignations pursuant to the provisions of the Political Parties Act read together with The Political Parties (Amendment) of 2016 in relation to the membership of elected and nominated members upon merger," the Registrar said in a notice.

According to the notice, Meru Governor Peter Munya said he would serve his remaining term as an independent, Lamu's Issa Timamy requested to join Amani National Coalition (ANC) while Bomet's Isaac Ruto joined the Chama Cha Mashinani which he recently registered.

Lamu Deputy Governor Eric Mugo joined ANC while his Isiolo counterpart Mohammed Gulleid joined Ruto's Chama Cha Mashinani.

The Senators who declined to join JP are Bonny Khalwale (Kakamega) and George Khaniri (Vihiga).

The seven MPs on the other hand included Moitalel Kenta (Narok) and Kyengo Maweu (Kangundo) who have preferred to remain independent while Sakwa Bunyasi (Nambale), Alfred Sambu (Webuye East), Alfred Musadia (Sabatia), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga) and Ayub Savula joined ANC.

Others are the 94 MCA’s in Kakamega, Migori, Vihiga, Kwale Bomet, Meru and Baringo who have joined ANC, Kanu, ODM or preferred to remain independent.
