Incumbent Lamu Women Representative Shakilla Abdalla’s hopes of retaining her post became shuttered after she was trounced by Jubilee’s Ruweida Obbo.
Obbo, a little known newcomer in the political arena, as at Friday 8.15am, had garnered 23,093 votes against Abdalla’s 13,374 votes.The preliminary results from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) are from 166 polling stations with only 10 polling stations from the county left.Earlier on, Abdalla had been leading but she was overtaken by the Jubilee candidates in one of the most watched contests at the women rep level. Abdalla was defending her seat on a Wiper party ticket.Incumbent Governor Issa Timamy was also trounced by Jubilee’s Fahim Twaha. Twaha garnered 22,969 votes (46.57%) against the incumbent’s 22,848(45.45%) from all the county’s polling stations.In the senatorial race, Wiper Party’s Hassan Albeity, a new comer, defeated Anwar Loitiptip of Jubilee. As at 8.15am, Albeity was leading with 14,359 votes against Loitiptip’s 14,163 votes from 165 out of 167 polling stations.
