With 12th parliament expected to have its first sitting on Thursday, several positions would be up for grabs from either sides of political divide.
Speakers of National Assembly and Senate will be highly competed but with an outright majority of Jubilee in both houses, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred candidates are likely to sail through.
On Wednesday, Uhuru’s Jubilee endorsed Justin Muturi for the second term as speaker in the National Assembly while Ex-Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka was fronted to Senate, a position which he will battle out with incumbent Ekwee Ethuro, who is likely to get backing from opposition NASA.
But Jubilee’s high numbers in both houses means all parliamentary positions for grabs would definitely go to heir favorite candidates.
Kipchumba Murkomen, a staunch supporter of the ruling party would be Senate Majority Leader while his predecessor Kindiki Kithure will be Deputy Speaker.
One of the first female elected senators Susan Kihika of Nakuru, who served as Nakuru Assembly speaker was satisfied with Senate Majority Whip.
At the National Assembly, Aden Duale’s loyalty was once again rewarded since he will retain has Majority Leader seat. Benjamin Washiali of Mumias will serve as Majority Whip.
But one of biggest beneficiary is MP Jimmy Angwenyi of Kitutu Chache North who is set to deputize Duale. The opposition side is yet to reveal their lineup.
