Local dispensaries in Nyamira County will be operating for 24 hours, Nyamira MCAs have said.
This comes after the ward representatives passed a motion to compel the health facilities to operate 24 hours.
Bosamaro ward MCA Charles Keganda, who sponsored the motion, said the move will improve delivery of services to locals.
“We don’t want a situation whereby Nyamira residents will be forced to travel to Kisii County to seek medication yet we have enough health centers in Nyamira.
"Nyamira dispensaries will be opening doors 24 hours so that locals seeking medication can have access when they get ill,” he said.
He urged MCAs to ensure all dispensaries adhere to the new regulations once the bill is assented to by Governor John Nyagarama.
Nyansiongo ward MCA Dennis Kebaso, who seconded the motion, urged the county government to ensure all dispensaries are well equipped.
“It is a challenge to us now to ensure local dispensaries have enough drugs in stores to serve the increased number of patients seeking medical care at the health centers,” said Kebaso.
