A bill sponsored by Nyeri senator, Mutahi Kagwe concerning child exploitation is awaiting tabling in the Senate.
If passed the Cyber Security and Protection Bill, 2016 could see cyber users sexually exploiting children pay heavy fines.
The perpetrators’ could serve a jail term of 25 years or a Sh250,000 fine or both.
The bill is focused on addressing various online crimes such as the distribution of pornography and cyber bullying.
“A person who intentionally transmits or causes the transmission of any communication through a computer system or network to bully, threaten or harass another person, where such communication places another person in fear of death, violence or bodily harm commits an offence,” reads part of the bill.
