The Bill by Tiaty MP William Kamket that proposes radical adjustiments in the executive has created internal rifts with Jubilee party, reveals the Sunday Nation.
While both President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto have distanced themselves from he bill originating from a Jubilee leaning legislator, sources intimate that it could crack the Jubilee party.
"We shall not entertain anything short of executive presidency. We cannot allow them to destroy Ruto's ambitions," an MP from Rift Valley told the Sunday Nation.
But despite rebuking it openly, Uhuru's allies from the populous Mt. Kenya region are said to be secretly supporting the bill with Jubilee Vice Chair David Murather hinting a possible reign of Uhuru past 2022.
"People want Uhuru to retire at 60 while Raila Odinga is trying to be president at 75, where do you want Uhuru to go?" he asked.
If passed, the bill would introduce a powerful Prime Minister post which would be accompanied by a ceremonial presidency.
Also, the bill would introduce a powerful official opposition office while Senators would be elected at the regional assemblies.
Although Kamket rules out post Uhuru era past 2022, he however says the president is a gentlemen enough and would quit politics.
