Uasin Gishu Council of Imams and Preachers in Kenya (CIPK) chairman Abubakar Bini has condemned goons purported to be NASA supporters for assaulting journalists at Wiper headquarter in Nairobi. He said the act was uncalled for and those involved should face the full force of the law. "I want to condemn this incident with the strongest terms possible. Why should an innocent journalist be attacked while on the line of duty?" he said in Eldoret town on Tuesday."Those who were involved should be arrested and charged to act as an example to those with similar behaviors," he added. He, however, urged NASA leaders to tame their supporters and warm them against attacking journalists since their mandate is to inform, educate and entertain their audiences.“These acts must be stopped by the NASA leaders themselves because reporters cannot be intimidated from doing their work,” added Bini.Citizen TV reporter Francis Gachuri and NTV’s camerawoman Jane Gatwiri were on Tuesday afternoon roughed up by goons said to be NASA supporters.
NASA leader Raila Odinga has apologised to the journalists.
