Uasin Gishu County Council of Imam and Muslim Preachers chairman Abubakar Bini has lauded the teachers unions’ for suspending their strike that had paralysed learning in public schools for over a month.
He termed the action the by the unions as timely and orderly since it will save the student who have suffered due to lack of education.
Speaking in his office on Saturday, Bini thanked the teachers unions for obeying the Industrial Court Judge Nelson Abuodha who had asked them to suspend the strike for 90 days to give room for negotiations.
The chairman at the same time challenged the government to obey court orders by working amicably with the unions on how the increment will be implemented.
"I urge the national government through the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission to embrace dialogue. No party should take a hard-line stand. They should embrace each other and settle the 50-60 per cent pay increase as awarded by court. They should come up with a strategy on how the increment will be paid to prevent any reoccurrence of the strike in future," the cleric said.
He urged teachers to report to school on Monday as directed to help students with their revision and syllabus coverage especially the candidates who are expected to sit their final exams.
