Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has called for the ministry of Interior security to sensitize community on peace at a local level.
Birik cited that the county, which hosted more than two million Kenyans, was experiencing peace after massive reconciliation and peace building efforts.
“All the 42 tribes living in the area are living peacefully and as one accord. We have been able to build up the county which was one of the most affected during the 2007/2008 post-election violence to a very peaceful place,” he said.
He was speaking at Afraha stadium on Thursday, where he challenged the residents to uphold and sustain the peace the county was experiencing.
“Nakuru will be the county to be depended on. We are happy with President Uhuru Kenyatta for helping us to sustain the peace and stability we are currently experiencing. We are now sure that even during the political campaigns and subsequent elections the residents will enjoy perfect peace,” he added.
Birik also called on the county leadership to ensure that they do not infringe on the peace that the area was currently experiencing.
“We call on them to help us rebuild the town and sustain the relationships between all the tribes in this area. It is important for the development of the county,” he added.
