Residents of Naivasha and Gilgil have been advised to ignore any politician and local leaders who incite them over land matters.
Nakuru County commissioner Mohammed Birik told the residents that they will gain nothing by doing what politicians tell them, because such politicians are just out to fulfill their selfish agendas.
Addressing residents of Kasarani village in Naivasha Tuesday afternoon, Birik said that land problems cannot be solved through issuance of inciting political statements and called on residents to follow the right legal procedures in addressing any land related problems.
“Politicians will always be politicians and they will say anything without weighing the impact of such as long as it satisfy their own interests, and I want to call on all residents of Naivasha and Gilgil to stop listening to politicians who spread propaganda about land issues,” said Birik.
“They are the people who make you fight over something which could have been solved by the courts in an amicable manner,” added Birik.
The commissioner said that the government will not give politicians space to incite residents against each other, and warned politicians against using political functions to incite residents over land matters.
“We will not allow people to use political forums to cause unnecessary tension and conflict among residents of Naivasha, and anybody that will be found to be behind the incitement of residents will be dealt with according with the law,” he said.
Naivasha and Gilgil have in the recent past been in the news for all the bad reasons concerning land conflicts in the area.
