Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Birir said 70 per cent of accidents reported daily are boda boda related.

"We are saddened by the reports we get of accidents caused daily by the boda bodas and we have found out that most of them are not trained and don't have driving licences," he said.

He said the county government under his Ministry will carry out crackdowns to ensure that those driving boda boda are qualified and have undergone training.

"Enough is enough we cannot just stay mum and yet innocent lives are being lost through irresponsible driving. All those who don't have licences should look for alternative jobs before we take action against them," he said.

The county government will partner with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)  to offer one month training to boda boda riders for them to be conversant with traffic rules to prevent accidents that could have been avoided.

"We are also urging them to join saccos for easy identification, since it will be easy for us to know the unqualified drivers," he said.
