Garissa Township MP Adan Duale has said civil registration officers demanding bribes from locals to process birth certificates to be sacked.
According to Duale, locals should not pay anything to have the documents processed.
"Civil registration officers should not take advantage of the poor people to ask for bribes. Birth certificates should be processed without applicants being asked to pay anything,” said Duale as reported by Nation.
The National Assembly Majority leader said hundreds of his constituents have complained to him over some officers demanding bribes.
"My constituents should have the documents processed for free. The complains I have received that locals have been asked to pay between Sh1,000 to Sh5,000 bribes to process a birth certificate are under investigations and officers who will be found guilty will be sacked, arrested and prosecuted,” he added.
Duale said EACC officers in the region should keep watch on the officers and take legal action against the corrupt officers.
