Bishop Joseph Otieno Wasonga of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Maseno West Diocese has criticized the move by the Atheist society to propose the scrapping off of Christian Religious subject from the curriculum.   Bishop Wasonga said that religion plays a key role in the society by instilling good morals to the students, and scraping it off at the school level will lead to moral decay.

The Bishop, who was speaking  in Kisumu after a fund drive aimed at completing the church’s five storey building, said that individual’s development revolves around religion.

Wasonga added that the constitution recognizes the existence of several denominations from Christians, Muslims and Hindus as their existence forms a strong foundation of any government.   He said there is no development in any county that can be implemented without the basis of religious values which in one way or another must be acquired from churches and religious teachings.   The bishop said that without religious education, citizens will not realize the benefit of their professions as many code of ethics are driven from the subject.
