Kenyan televangelist Gilbert Deya of the popular 'Miracle Babies' will now spend the next six nights at the Kamiti Maximum Prison pending the ruling of his bond application.
Deya earlier denied five different counts of child stealing the prosecution said he was involved between 2002 and 2004 at the Mountain View Estate.
He denied stealing children under 14 years.
Through his lawyer John Swaka, the evangelist asked the court to give him reasonable bail, arguing that he is not a flight risk.
“Deya will not interfere with the investigations, considering the investigations started over 10 years ago when the case was initially brought to court," Swaka argued.
State counsel Nicholas Mutuku however opposed the bail application on grounds that Deya is a flight risk.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi while ruling on the bail said he will deliver his verdict on August 10 and said that Deya be locked up in the meantime.
Although Kamiti maximum prison is for suspects facing capital offences such as murder while the others on lesser charges are taken to Industrial Area cells, the bishop was locked up at Kamiti on his request.
