A section of clerics has disputed the elections to replace Mombasa Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Julius Kalu.
According to Daily Nation, ACK Bishop Hannington Institute of Theology and Development Studies lecturer Alphonce Mwaro Baya emerged the winner of the exercise after the clerics voted three times.
A number of clerics have, however, said that they will seek for legal redress following what they termed as rigging of elections.
The clerics have accused the Bishop-elect of colluding with other parties to rig the election.
Rev. Mwaro won the elections after defeating the vicar of ACK St John Church, Rev Richard Otieno and Mombasa Memorial Cathedral provost, Rev Festus Kiseu. Kalu has denied being involved in the alleged rigging process, adding that he is not ready to comment on the issue.
A primate has, however, asked the clerics and worshipers disputing the election not to seek for court’s intervention in the matter. He instead urged them to embrace dialogue for the sake of the unity of the church.
“Don’t be too quick to go to court on any matter concerning the Church. We have enough people who can solve the impasse or in case of a problem. We are supposed to sit down, dialogue and solve any issues,” he said, as quoted by the local daily.
The Bishop-elect had pledged to serve all the members of the church without fear or favor.
