A cleric from Bungoma County now claims that no person from the Luhya community will ever ascend to the presidency.

According to Bungoma Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of All Nations (PEFA) Bishop Maurice Wanjala, members of the community "mistreated' retired president Daniel Moi when he toured the region in 1992, prompting a 'curse' from God.

Wanjala alleged that Bungoma residents put witchcraft tools on the road which Moi was to use to access Nzoia area when he toured the area in 1992.

The sorcery led to the breakdown of Moi's car before he could reach his destination.

"Our people messed up with a God-chosen leader. This action angered God as the president never reached his destination," Wanjala said as quoted by Citizen TV.

Wanjala, who spoke during a recent function in Webuye, urged local leaders to organise and send a delegation to apologise to the retired president Moi.

"Unless we apologise to (retired) President Moi for disrespecting him, our community will never produce a president. We also need to seek forgiveness from God for the mistake," said Wanjala.

Among the leaders from the Luhya community eyeing the presidency in the forthcoming elections slated for August 8 include ANC's Musalia Mudavad and Ford Kenya Moses Wetangula.
