The Bishop of the Eldoret ACK church Dr Christopher Ruto has slammed MPs over their intentions to increase their salaries.

Speaking at St Mathew's ACK church in Eldoret when he led believers in Christmas celebrations on Monday, Ruto condemned the move saying it is self-centred.

It is not the first time Kenyan legislators have wanted to have their salaries increased despite the fact that, they do not pay taxes like the rest of Kenyans. These plans have not been received well by the Bishop of the Eldoret ACK church Dr Christopher Ruto and other Kenyans.

“Members of parliament must be mindful of the difficult financial and economic challenges faced by the majority of Kenyans. It becomes very difficult for Kenyans who are struggling to make ends meet. When the MPs increase their salaries, it will be difficult for Kenyans because they will be required to pay higher taxes,” lamented the bishop.

The bishop said that most of MPs are not trustworthy with their jobs as they do not keep the words of their own mouths. They do not fulfil their promises after they have been elected to represent the people who sent them to parliament.

Bishop Ruto asked politicians to reconsider the way they treat their electorate arguing that they are the ones who give them jobs thus, they are responsible for their personal welfare. He advised leaders not to put their interests above those of the people.
