Bishop Margaret Wanjiru will remain in police custody for the next five days, when she will appear in court to be let free on a Sh500,000 bond. The former Starehe MP, who is aspiring to become the governor of Nairobi, is charged with causing malicious damage to property and creating disturbance. Appearing before chief magistrate Francis Andayi, she denied destroying four ballot boxes and Jubilee papers valued at Sh30,000.According to the prosecution, Bishop Wanjiru stormed the polling station in Nairobi while being accompanied by a noisy group of about 50 people. The prosecution team asked the court to detain her so that the Jubilee primaries go on smoothly and in a peaceful manner — at least until they are completed. Ms Wanjiru faces competition from Senator Mike Sonko and former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth for the Jubilee Party ticket. Sonko won the nomination.
