Eldoret Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir has proposed the introduction of peace studies into the primary and secondary school syllabus.

Speaking to journalists at The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret on Monday, Korir said there is an urgent need for the government to incorporate peace studies in the curriculum.

The bishop said that the introduction of the unit will go a long way in ending conflict among communities in the country.

He said that students should be taught on importance of peace at an early stage for them to grow up as peace ambassadors.

“We are advising the government to introduce peace studies into the primary and secondary school syllabus so that we can end some of the perennial conflicts we experience in some parts of the country,” he said.

Korir also asked the government to dedicate resources to the achievement of peace and unity in conflict prone areas.

He said the government has a responsibility to guarantee security of every Kenyan.

The Bishop said the Church will provide the necessary support required in in the achievement of national cohesion while urging the youth across the country to shun activities that will disrupt peace.
