In one of the biggest sport's biggest brain fades, Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech forgot to pee off for the water jump during the World Athletics Championships in London in 2017.
Chepkoech, who was leading at the time it happened lost her concentration as she stared at the big screen, forgetting to look at the track where she was supposed to have kept her eyes.
This forced her to veer off the track and, instead of taking the lane to the water jump, she went off-course.
The other runners looked perplexed, Chepkoech looked mortified when she realised and had to stop, run back again and go over the water steeple.
The fourth-place winner in Brazil in 2016 was leading and comfortable until that moment when she gave up all ground and momentum.
Chepkoech got herself back to the lead pack and with a lap to go was in the top four group but the effort to run further than others, run backward, jump the water hurdle she had missed and then catch up to the leaders again all proved too much.
She faded in the final lap as Americans Emma Coburn (9:02.58) won gold Courtney Frerichs took silver.
