A senior police officer was at pains defending allegations that he has been using witchcraft to run his office as the police vetting exercise entered its third day.
Isaac Nyairo, Laikipia North sub-county administration police commandant also had a hard time defending allegations that he has been trading in bhang as well as releasing suspects accused of defiling girls.
According to panel chairman Ronald Musengi, the officer, while serving in Suba West sub-county in Migori, used witchcraft to run the office as well as ask money from the public before investigating a case.
The police commandant, who has been in the service for 36 years, was also put to task to defend allegations that while at the same station, he traded in bhang with the assistance of local chiefs.
On release of the rape suspect, the officer is accused of failing to conduct proper investigations on the case before releasing the suspect.
According to the panel, Nyairo is said to have carried out the investigations single-handedly contrary to the law and willingly ordered the release of a suspect accused of defiling a girl while serving in Kuria.
He however dismissed the allegations saying they were orchestrated to tarnish his record in the police service which he said he had served diligently.
