The youth and middle-aged shoppers are increasingly embracing the Black Friday online craze. In the past few days and continuing to the end of this month, a number of online stores are giving discount offers to attract customers to the increasing popular e-commerce platform.

Two of the leading retail online stores Jumia and Kilimall have been running mega shopping deals to lure customers to their platforms ahead of the Christmas period late next month.

Last week Safaricom also launched its e-commerce platform “Masoko”, which joined the rest in offering Kenyan customers online shopping experience.

According to Kilimall business director, Norah Akello customers have turned up in large numbers to enjoy this annual event. This has forced the company to extend the discounted shopping spree from seven to 10 days to accommodate shoppers’ traffic for cut-throat price deals in the competitive market.

“Most of the customers are between 18 and 35 years old and their interest is concentrated on electronics, women and men fashion and home and living products.

Most of the young parents are purchasing a range of products for maternity, baby and kids products,” Akello said.
