Kenya’s superstar Lupita Nyong’o received wild applause during the 90th Academy Awards in Hollywood as she announced that she is from Kenya.

Lupita was on stage alongside Pakistani-American stand-up comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani to award the Best Production Design.

The two during their short speech started with a joke saying, “We are the actors you keep hearing about, but whose names you have trouble pronouncing.”

After acknowledge that she is from Kenya Lupita during her speech at the Oscars said she is a dreamer.

“Like everyone in this room and everyone watching at home we are dreamers. We grew up dreaming of one day working in the movies. Dreams are the foundations of Hollywood and dreams are the foundation of America,” said Lupita as quoted by Daily Nation.

A Kenyan film, Watu Wote, that was inspired by a true story that occurred near Elwak in Mandera County missed an Oscar for the Best Live Action Short Film category during the event.

The film was inspired by the December 21, 2015 attack on a bus by Al-Shabaab militants that left two people dead.

The Oscar award in that category went to The Silent Child.
