With the rise in the school infernos, several myths have emerged to try and explain why these teenagers are burning up schools.
Some of the myths claim that the students do not like the education cabinet secretary Dr Alfred Matiang’i because he visits schools promptly and his rules are way too strict. They have just forgotten that this is the same person who saved them from corporal punishment.
While some others feel that these kids are afraid of exams, I feel that this can’t be the reason behind this crazy burning of schools. These are not the first group of students to sit for the national exams. Others have done it before without having to roast their school properties.
I know many will say that we should take responsibility and stop pointing fingers at others. But in this case, I must point fingers. The devil is responsible for all that is happening in our secondary schools. Yes, the devil. We cannot have schools burnt down in turns, one after the other. There thus must be a force behind this.
Some bad spirit must have gotten into our children making them do things that we least expect. Maybe firing Matiang’i or re-introducing corporal punishment in schools as some people have suggested won’t solve the problem.
What our children need is, thorough guidance and prayers. The infernos are almost beyond control and therefore spiritual intervention may solve everything.
Let us therefore, stop pointing fingers at certain people and pray for our schools and guide our children before the situation goes out of hand.
