The bursting of Patel Dam in Nakuru was as a result of heavy rains in the area and the management of Solai Coffee estates should not be blamed, the owner of the dam has said.
Mansukul Patel said the heavy rains caused the dam to burst and sweep away nearby villages.
The farmer who Kenyans are yet to see spoke on Tuesday through a press statement.
"With high pressure, water accompanied by dead stumps, logs and big boulders hit the wall of the dam causing a huge gush of water into the farm and outlying settlements," he said.
"We stand united with our community in Solai wholeheartedly. We appreciate the grace with which the government and non-governmental organisations have handled the situation," he added.
The raging waters led to the death of 47 people and massive destruction of property.
Water Resources Management, however, had said that the dams had been constructed illegally.
