A visually impaired man in Mombasa has asked well-wishers to intervene and help him settle a Sh731,832 hospital and mortuary bills.
Mwita Koroso said on Thursday the bill accrued after his son was involved in an accident and admitted to hospital for treatment from where he later passed on from.
Mwita, who once worked in Tanzania said he returned to the country after losing his eyesight close to five years ago. He was working for a mining firm in the country.
“I was working in Tanzania at the time I lost my eyesight. My situation could not allow me continue working. The company that employed me helped transport me back home. Life became difficult and my only son (name withheld) left for Mombasa where he worked as a hawker,” Mwita said.
Mwita said his late son was knocked by a speeding car near the famous Kongowea market while hawking. He was admitted to the Pandia Hospital Intensive Care Unit where he later on died from.
His body still held at the hospital’s mortuary because the family has to settle the over Sh700,000 hospital and mortuary bill before the body can be released.
Mwita has been in Mombasa for close to one month labouring to raise the money. He however, says the amount he has raised is less than Sh5,000.
In Mombasa, he lives at a Good Samaritan’s (Caleb Mangwe) home. He says the biggest challenge he faces is raising the over half a million shillings visually challenged.
“I will take whatever anyone will give towards raising money to secure the release of my son’s body. I want to give him a decent burial.” he concluded.
