University of Nairobi blogger Vincent Osumo alias General Osumo was yet again arrested and detained at Kisii Central Police following an order from Central Police Station on alleged illegal publication.
Osumo was arrested early July this year over alleged hate speech remarks he made against outspoken Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria in a Facebook post before being released on a cash bail from Milimani law courts.
According to Nyamira Majority Leader Laban Masira who was at the scene of arrest in Kisii Hotel, the officers tricked the renowned blogger claiming to be people searching for a blogging job before they apprehended him.
“Osumo is my friend and we had gone to take a meal at Kisii Hotel before some anonymous individuals pleaded to see him on claims that they were seeking a job. They come to the hotel and introduced themselves as police officers attached to Kisii,” he said.
“They said the order of arrest was issued in Nairobi and that they were pursuing a second suspect whose identity they did not ascertain. He was taken to Kisii Central awaiting his co-accused to be transferred to Nairobi,” he added.
In-depth investigation by the reporter reveals that Mr Osumo had allegedly tainted the image of another University of Nairobi leader Geoffrey Mosiria who would later confirm that he was the complainant in the case.
“It’s true that I reported him to the police because he has been circulating a message online accusing me to be a serial killer. I am waiting to face him in court and I can’t withdraw the charges,” Mosiria said on phone.
Officers from Kisii Police declined to comment on the matter since they were only ordered to arrest and transfer Osumo and the other unidentified person to Central Police in Nairobi.
