The commissioner said the measure will be crucial in uniting Kenyans at a time when political discrimination is dividing citizens across the country ahead of the coming 2017 general elections.

“This is the time bloggers should stand up and be responsible in their work. It is important to put the interests of your nation above personal needs to avoid creating tension and controversy in the country,” Nkanatha said.

Nkanatha was speaking in a meeting between a section of Nakuru journalists and the county’s security committee on Tuesday where he identified journalists as key players in ensuring peace in the country through their writing.

“We cannot overlook the power of media in influencing the public, this is why journalists should exercise professionalism and be objectivity in their work to avoid committing mistakes that may bring the country to ashes,” Nkanatha added.

The county commissioner also cautioned journalists against being used by politicians to achieve their personal needs that do not benefit the society.
