Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has suffered a major blow in his search for deputy governor.
This is after a Nairobi politician said she was not interested in the seat that was left vacant following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe.
Former Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh said she was happy working as Chief Administrative Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Public Service, Gender and Youth Affairs and was not looking for a political seat.
"I am no longer a politician. I am now a civil servant. The transition has been quick because of the directions of President Kenyatta," she said.
"No more siasa, it is all about development," Shebesh added while speaking during a function in Meru County on Thursday.
She was reacting to area governor Kiraitu Murungi's suggestion that Sonko should consider nominating Shebesh as her deputy as she was up to the task.
The city boss recently revealed he was planning to pick a woman from the Kikuyu community as her deputy.
"The deputy governor will be a Kikuyu because they have a larger population that supported me in the past elections," Sonko said during an interview on Kameme FM on Monday.
Shebesh's name has been floated in various forums for the deputy governor post.
Others include former Kiambu Women Rep Ann Nyokabi and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.
