[Photo/Nation]In what seems as an agreement, President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party and the National Super Alliance have rejected the involvement of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the upcoming October 26 fresh presidential election. The UN body had offered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) a deal to procure all the ballot papers and result forms for the repeat of the presidential election.IEBC had welcomed the offer noting their assistance is meant to aid restore public confidence and trust in the integrity of the ballot papers and result forms, as well as address concerns raised by the Supreme Court. However, according to Jubilee party, the deal is unlawful while on the other hand Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga claims the electoral body is hiding behind the body to have the Dubai based Al Ghurair firm print the ballot papers.“Kenya is not a banana republic. The only places where the UN can conduct elections are Haiti and Liberia," said Garissa MP Eden Duale, Tuesday, as quoted by Daily Nation."Any election conducted with proceeds from the UN is illegal. This is just because he wants to satisfy the ego of someone who is power-hungry," he added.Raila during a press conference on Tuesday noted, “IEBC cannot hide under UNDP to help in sourcing for ballot papers. It is not a question of who will pay. We reject the offer."
