Jubilee Party has been dealt a huge blow following the resignation of Murang'a Senator Kembi Gitura from the party.
Gitura tendered his resignation to Jubilee on Tuesday, accusing the party's top leadership of rigging him out during the party primaries in favour of his challenger and Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata.
The legislator further accused the party of overseeing shambolic primaries in Murang'a county, which he claimed did not reflect the will of the people.
"I had won in 22 out of the 35 electoral wards in Murang’a. I wonder how my opponent was declared the winner," he observed.
He garnered 146,207 votes against Kang'ata's 158,164 votes.
The Senate Deputy Speaker had earlier filed a petition with the party's Tribunal, seeking a repeat of the primaries in Kiharu and Mathioya constituencies.
He has since announced that he will seek re-election as an independent candidate during the forthcoming general elections.
