Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has suffered a blow after Deputy President William Ruto Sunday endorsed his rival Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu for governor in the August 8th general elections.
Speaking during a campaign rally at Thika stadium, Ruto urged Kiambu residents to vote for Jubilee candidates in all positions and asked the residents to rally behind Waititu to be the next Kiambu County boss.
“I want to remind all of you that Kiambu is Jubilee’s county number one. You must set an example to other counties by embracing six-piece voting pattern for all Jubilee candidates. We must give President Kenyatta who is our party leader ‘Wakahare’ (Waititu) as governor since he is our party candidate,” Ruto said.
Kabogo, who was missing at the event, was defeated by the vocal MP during Jubilee Party primaries conducted in April.
The Governor termed the nomination exercise ‘shambolic’ and declared to defend his seat as an independent candidate.
In an interview with The Star recently, Kabogo said he received reports that the DP rigged him out during the JP primaries.
However, he acknowledged that he did not have solid evidence to support the claim saying that people "told me all sorts of things".
Ruto urged the residents to come out in large numbers and vote for Jubilee, adding that the ruling party is confident of being re-elected.
“We must vote to the last man for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the forthcoming elections so that we give him another term to continue with the good work the Jubilee government is doing in all parts of the country,” Ruto added.
