Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party has been dealt a blow in their bid to win the Kilifi governor seat after their candidate Gabriel Katana failed the IEBC test.
Prof Katana who lost to the incumbent, Governor Amason Kingi during the 2013 elections was keen to bring his political career back on track by contesting in this year's election. However, his dream was ended prematurely when the electoral body turned him away for being a member of two different political formations.According to the IEBC, Prof Katana is a member of two political parties: Wiper Party and Vibrant Democratic Party, which is against the poll body's electoral laws.Speaking after his rejection, Katana dismissed claims that he is a project of one of the candidates. He claimed that someone might have been behind the mix up to intentionally bar him from vying.Following the latest development, the race will be hotly contested by three candidates including the incumbent who is vying on an ODM ticket, Jubilee's Gideon Mung'aro and Kazungu Kambi of KADU-Asili.All the three have been given the nod to run in the August polls.
