Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has resigned as Wiper secretary general. In a letter written to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Omar said his resignation was effective immediately. The Mombasa politician cited personal reasons, adding that he needed to re-organise himself where politics is concerned.“Circumstances as pertains to the steps I wish to take to seek electoral justice as indeed was your quest in the Supreme Court as NASA, the reorganisation on my politics – if at all and my endevours towards scholarship, personal development and repositioning the discourse for social justice and accountability in Mombasa and the Coast region through non-state actors makes my position as Secretary General untenable,” read the letter in part.Omar said he had earlier informed Kalonzo and NASA leader Raila Odinga that he would not serve in their government in the event they clinched the presidency and he failed to be elected Mombasa governor. He further said that he would not participate in the NASA campaigns ahead of the repeat presidential election scheduled for October 17, 2017.“You will indeed recall that way before the August 8 elections, I made it clear to you and Raila Odinga that I bear no desire to serve in your government in the event that you were elected and I was not elected governor of Mombasa…..That was not rhetoric. It still is the case. As such, it is unlikely that I will play any part in your October 17 presidential quest,” he added.Omar was trounced by Governor Hassan Joho in the Mombasa gubernatorial elections.
