Over 600 members from Western region belonging to the Amani National Congress (ANC), party allied to the National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition, have defected from Musalia Mudavadi’s party and joined president Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.
Led by Navakholo ANC’s branch secretary general Kennedy Ngao, they blamed their former party for poor leadership.
“We have had wide consultations and decided to join Jubilee because they have the interests of our people. ANC has poor leadership which is not ready to listen and serve the common citizens,” Ngao is quoted by the Standard.
They further revealed that they no longer had confidence in ANC party.
“Members have no confidence in ANC, some members in the party are supporting Jubilee candidates and we do not want to be seen as hypocrites that is why we have decided to ditch ANC and fully support Jubilee,” he added.
While receiving them, Navakholo’s Jubilee chairman Jotham Wamae said the entry of the members into their Jubilee party will boost Jubilee’s votes in western region.
He further expressed confidence Jubilee will the elections come August 8.
“Jubilee has done a lot to our people. We have witnessed construction of roads, technical training institute and medical college which will benefit our people. I welcome the new members in our winning team,” Wamae said.
