Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma has received a political boost, as he seeks for re-election in the August 8, polls.

This is after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) affirmed its support for the governor, saying he has done better for the people.

Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion urged teachers in Kisumu to vote back the ODM governor in office, saying he has been rallying behind teachers’ rights in the County.

''We as teachers, we have very strong passion of pragmatic and productive leadership and this has been seen in the first cohort of governors. We wish the governor of Kisumu, well. We urge our membership to support Ranguma's re-election, so as he can finish his term,'' said Sossion.

Accompanied by the governor, Knut National Treasurer John Matiang'i alongside other County and Union leaders, Sossion hailed governors for fronting Education sector in the counties.

''It is only through such leaders who support education, that we can progress,'' Sossion said, Sunday, after a meeting in Kisumu.

Ranguma faces rivalry from his senator, former Health Minister Prof Anyang Nyong'o, who has vowed to ensure he is out of office, in the August 8 polls.
