Mohammed Dida, who finished a distant fourth in August elections, distanced himself yet again from opposition leader Raila Odinga’s State House quest.
A section of media has repeatedly linked his with a close association with Odinga, who is set to face President Uhuru Kenyatta for the third time in as many years.
But a press conference in Nairobi on Monday, Dida said he would rather have Odinga serve as chair to Kenyan Human Rights Commission than president.
“I respect Odinga and he is a good fighter. He is a statesman and I will rather have him serve as chair of human rights commission.
“I have not supported him and I won’t do that. Those are just a creation of media to catch my attention,” he said, adding that the opposition’s demonstrations against IEBC are uncalled for.
Although he may not be such influential in Kenyan politics, Dida hit headlines in 2013 when he took the country to laughter during the presidential debate.
On whether all candidates should feature in the October elections, Dida urged courts to make ‘urgent’ interpretation of the constitution to safeguard basic rights.
